What is a Business Days Calculator?
A business days calculator counts weekdays (Monday through Friday) between two dates, or tells you what date falls a certain number of business days from a starting point. It excludes weekends but does not exclude public holidays, since holidays vary by country and employer.
How It Works
Two modes, both skipping weekends:
Example
Invoice is due 30 business days from May 6 (Tuesday):
- 30 business days forward, skipping weekends
- Result: June 17 (Tuesday)
- That spans 42 calendar days total
Tips
- Public holidays are not excluded. If your deadline skips a holiday, subtract one business day from the result manually.
- In Count mode, the start date is included and the end date is excluded. This matches how most contracts and legal notices count business days.
- For calendar-day deadlines, the countdown calculator is faster.
Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a business day?
A business day is any weekday: Monday through Friday. Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are excluded. Public holidays depend on the jurisdiction and are not universally excluded, so check your contract or local rules if holidays matter.
Is the start date counted as a business day?
In Count mode, the start date is included in the tally. In Add mode, the start date is day 0 and the first business day added is the next weekday. So "1 business day from Monday" is Tuesday.
Why does "10 business days" often feel like 2 weeks?
Because 10 business days spanning two full work weeks covers 14 calendar days. Two weekends (4 days) get skipped, so 10 working days = 14 calendar days when the span doesn't include holidays.
Do banks and courts use the same business day definition?
Not always. Banks typically exclude federal holidays. Courts may follow court-specific calendars. Contracts often define "business day" explicitly. When precision is critical, check the governing document for the exact definition.
